- The official website for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which hold collections of art for all historical periods from ancient to contemporary. This museum is one of the largest and most famous in the world. ADMISSION IS PAY-WHAT-YOU-WISH all the time. Give them only what you can afford (students usually give anywhere between $1 and $5).
- www.brooklynmuseum.org
- The Brooklyn Museum of Art holds collections from many of the major historical periods, from ancient to contemporary. They have excellent collections of Egyptian art, African art, and a collection of sculptures by Auguste Rodin. The museum was recently renovated. Admission is discounted for students.
- www.guggenheim.org
- The Guggenheim Museum usually has temporary exhibitions on various subjects and periods in the main rotunda. They have a small collection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century art that is permanently on view (Thanhausser Collection). Admission is expensive, but discounted for students.

- Recently reopened, the Museum of Modern Art holds collections of European and American art from 1880 to the present. DO NOT PAY FULL ADMISSION TO THE MUSEUM: CUNY students are admitted FREE, and students from other schools get a discount on the ticket price. The museum is newly reopened, so there is often a line to get in. Try to go on a weekday around opening hours to avoid the crowds.

- The Whitney Museum of American Art focuses on art of the twentieth century from the US and the Americas. A small selection of the permanent collection is on view, and there are temporary exhibitions which change approximately every 6-8 weeks. ADMISSION FOR CUNY STUDENTS IS FREE, and other schools get a discount.

- This museum specializes in exhibiting German and Austrian art of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Admission is $7 for students, and they are only open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays.

- Specializing in the art from the African Continent.
- www.noguchi.org
- This museum is the former studio of the twentieth-century sculptor Isamu Noguchi. If you are in the twentieth-century art course, you should plan a visit even if you do not do your museum assignment there.
